How much water can it produce?

This depends on the energy efficiency mode you have the device on. The output is between 144 and 288 litres per day. For most user cases, lower volumes of between 5-10 litres are needed which can be produced in 1-2 hours.

How fast is the water flow?

The water distribution runs on gravity and will fill a 1 Litre container in approx 10 seconds.

Will I pass my local authority water tests?

Each council has different requirements and operates slightly differently, but yes, it will produce safe drinking water. We work closely with independent UKAS accredited testing facilities. If it isn’t passing something is wrong with the installation of the device. If water tested from your device does not pass Scottish council authority tests, we will refund the cost of the test and fix the problem for you free of charge.

What temperature is the water?

The water that leaves the system is roughly 3-5C warmer than the water that goes in. We are working to reduce this. If the water is produced overnight the temperature in the morning should be room temperature.

How often does it need to be serviced?

We recommend a service every year. Conducting this with one of our certified technicians will extend your warranty.

How do I know if it needs to be serviced?

Servicing will be scheduled annually from your date of purchase. 2 to 3 weeks before your scheduled service you will receive an email asking you to book an appointment within the next month.  Our certified servicing team will confirm your booking and are on hand to answer any queries.

What happens if the device breaks between scheduled services?

The predictive maintenance system on the device will alert you by email to any unscheduled maintenance requirements. It will also alert our team and it is likely that you will hear from us at the same time.

How does it remove limescale?

The system has a self flushing program that introduces citric acid (concentrated lemon juice) to the main evaporation chamber over time. This has the effect of loosening and removing limescale. This does not enter the condensation chamber so there is no risk of consumption.

What are the dimensions of the purifier?

Our first product, the OG1, is 800mm by 500mm by 500mm.

How heavy are they?

100kg.

How does it work?

The proprietary IF technology speeds up the natural process of distillation, producing highly pure water at speeds that are usable for homes and businesses. The energy efficiency and low running cost comes from a low energy medical grade compressor that adds heat to the system, removing the need for expensive heating elements.

How long will it last? The system has no replacement parts and is designed to run for 10 years if well maintained and used responsibly.

How much power does it take to run?

To produce 10 Litres of water requires 2.25 kWh when all produced in one go. The system has a startup cost equivalent to boiling a kettle using a 2kW heating element for a short period of time. When producing water it requires 300W, the equivalent to a fridge.

Can I run the devices at night to reduce my power costs?

Absolutely. Our eco mode runs at night and can produce 10 Litres for only £0.10.

My water demand is high - could I get two units and produce more water overnight?

Yes, separate systems can be used to fill the same storage container.

What happens in a power cut?

In the case of a power cut the system will automatically shut down safely. The device will automatically start working again and continue water production until the programmed level is met.

What happens if I demand water at a faster rate than it can be replaced in the IF device?

If you have water demand spikes throughout the day e.g. mornings, we can supply larger tanks to enable more production prior to spikes.

If you require more supply throughout the day, the system can be configured to produce water continuously. The maximum output is between 144-288 litres per day. Beyond this level a second system will be required.

I have solar PV and a storage battery, can I use this to power a IF purifier?

Yes. Our goal is to enable free high purity water all around the world. If you have renewable energy produced on your premises, you can use it to generate free high purity water.

How much does it cost?

As of July 2022, the IF Water|One OG1 is £6,595 without VAT - this covers the purifier & delivery.

A standard installation is roughly £1,500-2,000 including VAT, but this depends on your home and the installer.

We also offer a Service Plan (£18/month) which includes our optimisation services and extended guarantee. We also provide any routine maintenance required for the IF purifier.

How much does a Litre cost?

It depends when you produce your water and how you use the IF device. For example, the Eco mode used at night is shown below. Other examples are shown here.

Water produced = 10

Energy used = 2.25 kWh

Daily energy cost = £0.15* (£695 saving over on demand)

* based on over economy 7 rates of 0.07p / kWh

Does it qualify for the Off Grid Purifier Scheme or other grant funding?

As this is a new technology it does not yet qualify for any grant or subsidy support. We hope to be able to change this in future.

Will my water costs go up?

This depends on your energy tariff & water demand. You can check out our cost & carbon calculator here to see if a IF purifier could be cheaper to run than your current alternative.

Can it go under my sink?

The current design is capable of fitting under a countertop, but not a sink yet. We are working to introduce this soon.

Can it go in a utility room?

Yes, our first version of the OG1, the size of a small dishwasher, is designed for home use inside a utility room. The OG1 can go anywhere there is a power supply and water in and out pipes.

Can it be located outside?

We are upgrading our insulation and safety requirements to make it all weather proof as it will need to be able to withstand heat as well as storms and wet. We will be introducing external wall mounting for future versions.

Does it need an internet connection?

It needs an internet connection. This can either be provided over Wifi or ethernet.

Do I need a smart meter?

No - the IF Water|One will still be able to optimise running times so it minimises your cost and carbon footprint. However, to access lower cost electricity too, you will need a smart meter and a smart tariff from your energy supplier.

Can my plumber/electrician install it?

Absolutely - full instructions supplied, it is not complicated to install. However, we do ask that all installers attend our training and must adhere to our installation instructions to ensure the guarantee is valid.

How much CO2 will I save?

In 2019 plastic production released 850 million metric tons of greenhouse gases to the earth's atmosphere. A large source of plastic production is for bottled water, and part of our mission at IF is to remove the reliance on bottled water.

The proprietary IF technology is 22X more energy efficient than traditional distillation.

If you have rooftop solar PV a IF purifier can use the excess energy to purify and produce fresh water for your reservoir so you don’t run out of fresh water on a hot day.
