On the picturesque island of Coll in the Scottish Hebrides, is an old converted ruin, now a modernised family off grid home. Environmentally friendly off grid living is a growing trend, but how do you access safe water?
This family of four relies on a borehole to access the water they need, a common solution for rural homes. However, this water needs to be purified before consumption (now a legal obligation in Scotland for businesses), and here lies the problem.
When Scottish Water tested our water, they found harmful biological contaminants, Manganese, Iron and more. Contamination is worse when the weather is bad, and UV and Reverse Osmosis systems don’t remove all contaminants. Accessing safe water off grid is a big problem in our community.
We tested the Novus vapour distiller on the worst water on the island for a mont, and from day one, all contaminants instantly stopped coming through. The distillation process they use gives us total confidence that all bugs are vaporised and all heavy metals are left behind.
