The availability of clean and safe water is essential for any human society to thrive. However, for many in different parts of the world, obtaining clean and safe water can be a challenging task.

The Defence sector, both in the UK and around the world, has a very high reliance on water. Many military operations are carried out in remote areas that lack access to safe water, so rely on local sources such as rivers, lakes, or wells. The problem with these sources is that they may be contaminated with pollutants, bacteria, or other harmful substances that can cause waterborne illnesses.

Between 2001 and 2007, over one million person-days were lost in Iraq and Afghanistan due to diarrhea. Not only do waterborne illnesses have a serious detrimental effect on an individuals health, they increase the pressure on medical teams and can compromise mission objectives. In a military context, where split-second decisions can mean the difference between success and failure, having soldiers who are unable to perform at their best is a serious problem.

Now consider how this already serious problem can be magnified within a refugee camp or in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster. The ability to set up a reliable and consistent source of clean water quickly will help to reduce the spread of disease and save lives. Novus' technology looks to ease this logistical headache.

We are looking to address this specific concern by providing a mobile water source, removing the need to transport it; and by removing contaminants that traditional technology cannot, through its proprietary evaporative nature and high temperature process. The MVCD™ technology offers a cost effective, high quality solution that mitigates both health and mission risks. The evaporation process provides consistent water, regardless of source, with no drop in quality as there are no consumable parts to wear out.
